Welcome to the Wings of Hope forum. Here, we are trying to create a safe community for people in all stages of recovery: Pre, during, and post. We welcome anyone to the forum, provided that everyone is supportive and understanding. We welcome people currently struggling, people in recovery, and supporters who may not have experienced everything we have first hand. In order to ensure that everyone is safe in this environment, however, we have just a couple rules.
1) Triggers. Triggers are words, phrases, pictures, videos, or anything that could cause someone who is currently struggling with an addiction or a disorder to relapse. An example would be offering a beer to a recovering alcoholic, or posting a picture of a fresh cut to someone struggling with self harm. We want to avoid these, but at the same time keep an open forum. So, what I've done is I've coded the boards for trigger warnings.
If a board is marked Green please do NOT post anything related to triggers. This should be a safe board for people who are currently struggling and could very easily relapse. These boards are open to discussions about things not relevant to struggling; share a happy memory you have. Talk about your awesome snowboard trip. Post your newest painting, or chat about a really cool person you met. Any posts that have anything related to triggers posted will either be moved to their appropriate forum or will be deleted entirely. I don't want to be a jerk about this, but at the same time if someone is really having a hard time not relapsing and wants to have a place to go and chat, I want them to have that safe place. Please respect the Green Boards.
Yellow Boards are more of the grey area. These are going to comprise most of the forum here. A yellow forum is where you can talk about your experiences, your struggles, your desires, your hatreds, your loves, your addictions. Try to avoid really detailed descriptions of triggers. Anyone who wants to talk about struggles without having any major triggers come up should feel safe here. No graphic pictures or descriptions are allowed.
Red Boards are anything goes. They have the highest trigger warning. I don't know if I'll keep this in the forum in the long term. I really like the idea of having a truly open forum for saying and posting anything. The only thing that isn't allowed on the Red Boards is anything sexually explicit. (Due in part that I don't want to require people to be 18+ to join, and in part due to my hosts' requests.) Please remember that this site is for healing, however, and treat the Red Boards kindly.
2. Threats. This is a SAFE environment for healing. Anyone who is found to be harassing or attacking or threatening someone will be immediately removed from the board. Everyone has a right to express what they are struggling with in a safe environment without being judged or attacked. I take this very seriously. Anyone who is being made to feel uncomfortable by another should immediately seek out a moderator.
3. Language. Try and use language appropriate to the forum color that you're on. If it's a red board, feel free to drop all the F*bombs that you want. If it's green, try and use no mature language. Yellow boards are discretionary. Use your best judgement.
Above all else, please be kind. We are all hurting here and wanting to heal.
Love,
Angel
